carbon foot print

Hello every one hope your new year is starting of with a bang.  Lets Make this the year of changes and make Cleveland the hot bed for creative thinking on helping our environment.

My idea is simple and would make big changes for the environment world wide because we all can do it.  It would take no money out of our pockets.  Just make simple changes in your cleaning habits.  Use vinagar and backing soda as a home remedy or do your home work and find a biodegradable cleaner and use it.

When looking for a diodegradable cleaner you have to do your homework we are greening America and lower our standards so more companies can say they have a green product.  You need to find a company that their product biodegrades in 3-5 days.

One without harmful chemicals in the products, learn to read their claims and see what they are really saying.  Example if they claim to kill 99.9% of germs you better read the fine print because it only kills a certain germs and it will tell you in the fine print.

The advantages for you going green are its better for the environment and its better for your health.

Some stats:

most common poison exposure for children were ingestion of household products, such as cleaning substances.  Chlorine is the number one cause of child poising in the U.S.

150 chemicals found in the home are associated with allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological disorders.

Women often work closely with potententially toxic chemicals, and preliminary research suggest that their physiology is more conductive to absorb and carrying these chemicals.  Research estimates the health care cost of U.S. women's environmentally associated diseases is $12.2 billion annually.

90% of toxic hazards are caused by the inhalation of vapors and absorption of hazardous particles.

The dramatic increase in rates of asthma in women in the past 10 years are believed to be due to women's longer exposure times to household chemicals.

This is just a small list of the many ill effects of what the chemicals are doing in our homes it doesn't even bring up what it is doing to the outside world.

I can only make statements about the company that I represent and what we can do for the environment.

By changing to our product starter kit you are eliminating 100 lbs of package waste, 248 pounds of green house gases and is equivelant to planting 10 trees.  What is important about the trees are the average person produces the same amount of co2 that takes ten trees to clean up.  The 248 lbs of gases are made up in less transportation cost and the cost of making of the bottles.  Again if you are going to go the natural route do your homework on what ever you are interested in buying they are not all created equal in cleaning power and value.  Please look for third party testing, claims and can they be backed up, what environmental impact will be made if you use their product, look and see what if any environmental group is using it look for large environmental group not the club down the street, and finally look at the companies environmental history are they getting big name recognition from the epa, earthday and other major environmental groups.

I would like to thank everyone who came to the January 8th meeting and everyone who brought up points that people never think about how important clean water is.  Stephanie for bring up the fact on how much it cost to clean up our water, and who ever brought up about fertilizers and how they are killing the animal life under ground and how it is causing a large brown spot of the southern shores of North America.

Here is a little video with some facts and figures about what we are doing to our earth.
